Policies

Noise:  The library is a place designed for quiet study and research.

  • Library staff reserves the right to ask you to leave the library if the noise level is too high.
  • Please respect each person’s right to a quiet study area.
  • Use the library's Group Study rooms, or other designated student activities areas located throughout the RCC campus, to study in small groups, to visit with classmates, and for informal discussion of a personal nature.

Cell Phones:  The library allows low talking on cell phones, no use of phone speakers allowed.

  • Please put your phones on silent or vibrate while entering the library. Ring tones disturb others studying around you.
  • If your phone rings, make sure your speaker is off and talk in a low voice.
  • If you are talking too loud on the phone, staff will ask you to leave the library.

Food: Food and drink in the library causes spills, stains, and messes. Please limit your food to snacks (e.g., bag of chips or a candy bar) and covered drinks.

  • The library prohibits all food or drink at the student computers or in the library classroom.
  • If any food is present in those areas, staff will ask you to move to another part of the library or to put it away (place in backpack etc.)
  • We will ask you to put away or throw out anything that could constitute an actual meal (e.g., a pizza, takeout, etc.) throughout the library.
  • Please leave no trace, throw away trash and report spills.

Computers: Patrons may use library computers to access the HELM online catalog, to facilitate research using the library's electronic databases, and to complete related school work.

  • Patrons may not use the computers for gaming, chat rooms or any illegal activities. Patrons violating these rules must leave the library's computer area.
  • Students must sign in at a computer using their RCC email address and their password (the last 4 digits of their student ID). Students will have one hour on a computer. Students may request an additional hour if other computers are available for research time.
  • Patrons may not upload any program to the library computers or change any Library computer configuration.
  • We offer printing to students for a nominal fee. Each page (side) of black and white printing costs $.10, and each page (side) of color printing costs $.50. Students receive $20.00 worth of printing credit in their account for each semester.
