Faculty may find the following resources helpful for ensuring course materials are accessible to all students. Accessibility is an ongoing process – there’s no expectation that everything be addressed at once. Additional guidance and training will be provided on an ongoing basis.

Canvas Accessibility Tools

• Accessibility Checker
  Found in the Rich Content Editor, this tool identifies common issues such as missing alt text, heading structure, and color contrast.
• Canvas Accessibility Guide
  Covers course layout, headings, links, images, and tables. 

Video Content

• YuJa
  Automatically generates captions for videos, which can be edited for accuracy before publishing.
• Word & PowerPoint Files
  Use the built-in Accessibility Checker to verify headings, reading order, alt text, tables, and embedded media.

PDF Files

• Accessibility often depends on how the document is created. Whenever possible, start with an accessible Word or PowerPoint file, then export as PDF.
• SensusAccess
  Converts Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files into accessible formats such as tagged PDFs and audio files.

Reference Materials

• WebAIM WCAG Checklist
  Provides an overview of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) for reviewing course materials.
• WebAIM Color Contrast Checker
  Verify that text and background color combinations meet accessibility contrast requirements. 
• The Accessible Social Checklist
  Use this checklist to review your social media content for accessibility before publishing. It’s a helpful guide for incorporating best practices and building good content habits, though it’s not exhaustive. Learn more at www.accessible-social.com.
