Veterinarian Assistant

*This will be a hybrid course. Hybrid courses have one scheduled face-to-face meeting time per week and an online
component. Hybrid courses are completed on-campus with specific meeting days and times per week,
with the remainder of the assignments completed online.*
This comprehensive 90-hour program will provide students with the foundation of working with and caring for small animals
to prepare them for entry level positions in the animal care field. Students will
familiarize themselves with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, animal husbandry,
office procedures, and client services. Special emphasis will be placed on safety
of the patient and veterinary staff, along with moral advocacy for the animal or pet.
The laboratory component will include demonstrations, practice on models, and hands
on instruction.This course will be broken into two components:
- Part 1: 60 hours of classroom instruction, lab exercises, and hands-on training
- Part 2: 30 - 60 hours of internship at a neighboring animal hospital, clinic, or veterinarian
