Successful Grand Opening of RCC Connect!

Successful Grand Opening of RCC Connect!

RCC administrators, students, faculty, and President Jonathan K. Jefferson celebrate the opening of RCC Connect during the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Students, staff, and leadership celebrate the grand opening of RCC Connect.

RCC celebrated the official launch of its RCC Connect student support center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 20. This one-stop solution, located in the heart of the RCC campus, makes it easy for students to register for classes and engage with support staff in a fun, interactive setting. It’s a place where students can get answers to critical questions about financial aid, course registration, and academic planning.

“Since joining the College, I’ve asked the RCC team to prioritize initiatives that make RCC easier to do business with. RCC Connect is the first, but certainly not the last, of these initiatives, and it was made possible by incredible teamwork and collaboration,” said RCC President Dr. Jonathan K. Jefferson. Another example is the chatbot “Ask Roxie,” which was launched at the event. The chatbot is available on digital displays and computers throughout RCC and can quickly answer frequently asked questions.

“RCC is never afraid to transform and evolve for the success of its students,” said RCC student speaker Alicia S. Wright. “Thanks to RCC Connect, speaking with helpful and informed staff members of multiple departments is easier than it’s ever been. They all now have the same business hours because they’re located in one place.” The theater major is on schedule to graduate in the spring of 2027.

Community colleges create educational opportunities for students that open doors to a brighter future. However, studies have shown that more than 40% of community college students don’t return for a second year. A smooth enrollment process and consistent communication remove potential barriers to enrollment and retention. RCC sets its students up for success by meeting them where they are, fostering personal connections with RCC staff, and providing integrated, individual support.

Activities at the grand opening also included a speaking program and a panel discussion featuring RCC leadership, Dart Adams, Journalist, Researcher, Lecturer; Dr. Kandice Sumner, President and CEO of METCO; and Lahidger Macajoux, Current RCC SGA President.  Students who attended also enjoyed a student resource fair featuring a Thanksgiving giveaway, raffle prizes, and more.
