Academic Advising
Academic advising begins when you enroll at RCC. Meeting with your academic advisor
is the first step to ensuring that you are on-track with your degree or certificate
program of study. Advisors provide holistic support and guide you through the academic
experience to post-grad journey.
All RCC students enrolled in a degree or certificate program are assigned an advisor,
coach, or Faculty Advisor. To identify your assigned advisor, log into https://myrcc.rcc.mass.edu/ and
select the “Students” tab. Your advisor will be listed under “Important Information.”
Students should initiate the advising. Advisement is provided in-person and virtually
(on Teams/Zoom); offered by appointment or on a drop-in basis. Students should plan
to meet with their advisor twice (2X) a semester. In addition to scheduled appointments
and drop-in advising, advisors are available to answer student inquiries via e-mail.
For e-mail inquiries, please allow two business days for a response.
Advisors are eager to help you and will be an essential resource in helping you stay
on track with your educational goals.
RCC advisors are here to:
- Provide major exploration: the process of exploring and deciding on a college major
- Familiarize you with MyRCC, assist with course selection, registration, and long-term
academic planning
- Monitor your academic progress and review your progress toward certificate or degree
completion
- Assist with schedule adjustment (add, drop, withdrawal of classes)
- Maintain knowledge of institutional policies and procedures
- Connect you to campus resources and make referrals, based on individual needs
- Discuss career interests and help to identify post-graduation plans
- Facilitate a Change of Major
- Run a degree audit and submit a Petition to Graduate
- Provide individualized attention and holistic support
