RCC In The News - April 2020

This April is a Community College Month unlike any other.  Everyone at RCC has risen to the unprecedented challenge posed by COVID-19 with creativity and compassion. We are so proud of the remarkable resilience of our faculty, staff and students in this new era of remote learning.

The transition has attracted local media attention. The Boston Globe used RCC as an example of how community colleges are loaning laptops, tablets, and internet hot spots to students. The Boston Business Journal quoted our President Dr. Valerie Roberson about the challenges and how RCC is making plans to offer some summer classes remotely. The Boston Herald quoted Dr. Roberson about all RCC is doing to “continue to be that lifeline for students.”

Be sure to check out the excellent interview Dr. Roberson did with Comcast Newsmakers. Although the world has changed since the interview was taped, the need for college access and affordability has not. Her overview of all the College has to offer was inspiring. Dr. Roberson also had a meaningful conversation with BNN about how the college is handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last but not least, don’t miss President Valerie Roberson’s excellent op-ed in Education Dive about how community colleges can not only survive COVID-19, but use the experience to better position their schools for the future.

We are looking for stories about RCC’s COVID-19 heroes. If you have a story of persistence or kindness to share, let us know. You can email your story to Executive Director Jordan Smock at jsmock@rcc.mass.edu or tag us in related social media posts on FacebookTwitter, LinkedIn or Instagram.
