Recyclable Materials Policy
The ACUERDO Academic and Administrative Policy Committee [AAAPC] of Roxbury Community
College recognizes the responsibility to make our students and staff aware of the
importance of recycling materials whenever possible to conserve the world’s limited
resources and conserve energy while exercising sound financial practices.
The Facilities Department will implement a plan to recycle materials that would otherwise
become waste, including paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans, from throughout buildings
and grounds, in support of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s
waste ban, which prohibits disposal of recyclable paper, cardboard, and paperboard;
glass and metal containers; and single-resin, narrow-necked plastics.
Success in reducing waste through recycling is based on the cooperation of all the
individuals in the College community. To ensure success of recycling efforts, the
following will be adopted:
- All faculty, staff, and students are expected to support recycling efforts throughout
the college.
- A system to document recycling amounts will be created and implemented by the Facilities
Department at Roxbury Community College. Collection bins will be placed in various
indoor and outdoor locations, including Student Commons, near the elevators in all
buildings to collect recyclable paper, plastic bottles, soda cans, and glass.
- Administration and offices of the College may provide educational material on recycling
where appropriate. Faculty are encouraged to include conversations about waste reduction
in lessons if feasible and relevant to course conversations.
Approved by the AAAPC in consultations with Facilities Department: February 2024,
unanimous vote.
