The Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College
The Sensational Seniors Exercise Program is the Flagship of the Reggie Lewis Center’s cardiovascular program. The Mission of the program is to maintain and improve the health of the members in a fun, safe environment. It also was developed to educate members on relevant health and fitness topics that promote healthy, lifelong behaviors.
Health, strength and laughter are the main attributes of this program. The program increases the mind, body and soul of the seniors who take part. With 15 of the original members still participating and over the age of 90 this is proof the program enhances life. The foundation of the program is an extensive cardiovascular workout that gets seniors on feet so the blood flows, muscles move and lungs get stronger. Members have access to an exercise facility that houses daily aerobics classes and customized cardiovascular programs that incorporate some state-of-the-art exercise equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes and much more. Rounding off the complete package members warm up and cool down on the world’s fastest indoor 200 meter track. An example of the daily program is listed below:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am-12:00pm
9:30am-10:30am: Individual exercise such as walking, power walking on the track (individually or with a group), weight lifting or cardio exercise
10:30am-11:00am: Strength training with an instructor
11:00am-12:00pm: Cardiovascular Group Exercise Class
A medical waiver from a physician is encouraged by all applicants and may be presented when applying for a membership. Membership fees for senior citizens (individuals 65 and older) are $30 for 3 months, $60 for 6 months and $120 for 12 months. Please note that fees will increase on July 1st, 2019.
