RCC Test Lab Hours and Policies pdf icon1

As of January 1, 2017, candidates for the Massachusetts High School Equivalency Credential may choose as a pathway to the Credential one of two assessments, the GED©test or the HiSET®.

RCC currently offers HiSET testing only.

Visit the state website for a comparison of the two tests: www.doe.mass.edu/hse.

To view HiSET test schedules for RCC and other test centers, and to register for HiSET exams, visit https://hiset.ets.org/.

RCC offers HiSET preparation classes through the office of Lifelong Learning:

There are also many free local HiSET prep programs. Visit http://massliteracyhotline.org/hotline/ for a list of preparation programs in your area.

As of August 18th, 2014, Massachusetts GED transcripts (for individuals who passed the GED exam anywhere in Massachusetts 1969—2013) are available only through the Diploma Sender company.

Official transcripts and diplomas for those who have passed the HiSet exams (March 2014—present) are also delivered by Diploma Sender.

Test centers such as RCC are no longer able to provide GED transcripts.

Any questions about this procedure can be directed to the High School Equivalency Office at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education: http://www.doe.mass.edu/hse/contact.html.

The ATI TEAS exam: The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a required test for students submitting an application to RCC's Nursing and Radiologic Technology programs. TEAS is provided by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). The ATI TEAS measures basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of reading, math, science and English.

A NEW TEAS EXAM: The current version of the TEAS is called the ATI TEAS. It is the Sixth Edition of the TEAS test. From 2009—August 2016 test takers took the fifth edition of the exam, or the TEAS V. Beginning September 1st, 2016, TEAS V is no longer available.

TEAS results must be dated on or before the application deadline to be considered for admissions.

Required Score: RCC's programs do not have a minimum required score. Please see the Nursing and Radiology applications for admissions criteria.

Retest Policy: Effective Spring 2017: RCC permits test takers to take the exam 2x per admissions cycle (July—March and April—June). We strongly recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before retesting in order to study and maximize chances of improving your score.

Results will automatically be reported to the RCC Admissions Office. To send transcripts to other schools you must order a transcript ($27) through www.atitesting.com.

Registering For A CLEP Exam

Note for students with testing accommodations:
Please contact the RCC Testing Department before registering for an exam. Accommodations must be approved through RCC’s Office of Student Accessibility Services before appointments are scheduled. Email us at testing@rcc.mass.edu or call the Coordinator at 857-701-1405.

  1. Check with your Advisor for your school’s list of accepted CLEP exams and score requirements. CLEP has 33 different exams, but not all schools award credit for all the CLEP exams.
RCC students: click here for a list of exams accepted at RCC.
  2. Buy a CLEP exam ticket ($85) from the CLEP website.
Note: tickets are valid for 6 months and can be used at ANY test center.
  3. Make an appointment at a test center. Test centers may charge an additional fee. At RCC the fee is $28.50. RCC students and students testing for other colleges may take CLEP at RCC.
The test center fee must be paid online through RCC’s test registration site when scheduling the appointment.
For a list of other test centers in the area, visit the CLEP website.
  4. Scores for most exams will be available on test day, but it may take up to 10 business days for CLEP to send your official score to your school. Scores for College Composition take 3-4 weeks to be processed.
  5. Check with your Advisor or your school’s Registrar to find out how CLEP credit will appear on your transcript. At RCC, CLEP credit is recorded as transfer credit.

Retest policy: CLEP requires a 3 month wait between attempts.
