ESOL
For some students whose
first language is not English, the first step towards higher
education and personal achievement is ESOL classes. Roxbury
Community College offers four levels of pre-college and
some college-level academic English instruction for speakers
of other languages. Students are tested and placed in the
course and level that best meets their individual needs
for grammar, conversation, reading, and writing improvement.
In addition to language improvement, ESOL classes develop
academic study skills and provide orientation to U.S. culture.
Students in ESOL begin to explore materials related to their
majors and develop a plan for transition to study in degree
areas or in other college wide skill areas, such as math
or humanities.
Roxbury Community College does not offer a degree or certificate
in the study of English for Speakers of Other Languages.
FOREIGN LANGUAGES
RCC offers beginning and intermediate
courses in Spanish and French language and culture.
The Language Department at Roxbury
Community College is an academic department of the Liberal
