PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

This training is offered to individuals who would like to become certified phlebotomy technicians in order to collect blood specimens from patients for lab analysis. The training introduces students to Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy and Physiology before focusing on the identification of the three major arm veins of choice. Students who are enrolled in this program will also learn OSHA regulations, Blood Borne Pathogens, Universal Precautions, Ethics, and Law. In addition, they will become familiar with test requirements, tube identification, procedures and protocol, as well as lab safety. This training focuses extensively on venipuncture using dummy arms in the lab. A 90-hour externship and 30-hour of simulated lab are required prior to challenging the national certification exam and for graduation. High School Diploma/GED, Immunization, and CORI required.
