Tommie Campbell, Jr. has joined the Roxbury Community College Athletics Department as the new Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Head Coach.  Alongside Associate Head Coach Said Ahmed and Assistant Coach Anne Beecher, Campbell will continue to develop both the indoor and outdoor teams after a strong showing at Nationals last season.  He is certified as a USATF Level 1 Coach.

Campbell comes to RCC after four seasons of coaching the Track & Field Program at the John D. O’Bryant School of Math and Science in Roxbury, MA.  He also previously coached at Brighton High School (Brighton, MA).

Coach Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical and Secondary Education from the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he was nationally recognized as a Track & Field athlete.  In 1991, he was named the New England Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and the following year became the URI record holder in the Long Jump.   He was a six-time New England Collegiate Triple Jump Champion, and, in 1993, Campbell was a United States Olympic Festival Participant and a World Champion Trials Qualifier in the Triple Jump. 

A current resident of Boston, Campbell has been a teacher at Frank V. Thompson Middle School since 1995.
