John Williams, Head Coach Men’s Basketball

Birthplace: Boston
Birthday: Dec. 3
Family:  Single
High School: Don Bosco Technical High School
College: Northeastern University
College Major: Electrical Engineering
Years Coaching: Three

This year marks John Williams’ second consecutive year as head coach of the Roxbury Community College men’s basketball team. Last year, in what was regarded by all a rebuilding season for the program after a year of inactivity, the team finished winless but with a sense of pride and accomplishment for playing a full slate of games under sometimes challenging conditions.

Williams made his college coaching debut as an assistant three years ago under then RCC head coach Shawn Hood.  Hailing from Boston, he is the most recent in a line of several well-known, local high school and college basketball talents to hold the head coaching reins at RCC.

His on-court achievements and exploits are legendary in Boston basketball folklore. At the high school level, they include being a four-year starter at Don Bosco High School and named to the Boston Globe All Scholastic Team, earning an honorable mention on the McDonald’s High School All American list and helping Don Bosco win three Division I state championships.

At the college level, he was a four-year starter at Northeastern University and was named to Sports Illustrated’s All Rookie Team.  Additionally, he, worked in tandem with his good friend and teammate Reggie Lewis,  helped lead Northeastern to three National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament appearances and, during one season, to an 18th place ranking in the national standings. He currently ranks 9th on the school’s all-time scoring list.

Williams works in the Finance Department at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.  In his downtime, he enjoys reading and relaxing.
