COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning Literacy (ESL 1)
This course is for adult English learners with very limited (little or no) knowledge of the language. The focus is on developing basic speaking and listening life skills.

Low Beginning (ESL 2)
This course is for adult English learners with very basic speaking and listening life skills. The focus is on developing more facility in speaking and listening in order to function with greater ease in an English-speaking environment.

High Beginning  (ESL 3)
This course is for adult English learners whose listening and speaking skills are adequate for survival in an English-speaking environment. The focus is on developing oral/aural skills, and on basic reading and writing skills.

Low Intermediate (ESL 4)
This course is for adult English learners to gain proficiency in listening and speaking. Emphasis is on developing skill in reading simple selections, and writing sentences and simple paragraphs.

High Intermediate (ESL 5)
This course is for adult English learners who have basic fluency in listening and speaking. Emphasis is on beginning development of academic reading and writing skills. A variety of reading selections is included. Writing paragraphs is a key focus.

Advanced (ESL 6)
This course is for adult English learners who have fluent listening and speaking skills. Emphasis is on developing greater proficiency in academic reading and writing skills. Various fiction and nonfiction selections are included. Writing coherent paragraphs and short compositions in a variety of modes is a key focus.
