Roxbury’s Willeen Capehart Signs Letter of Intent with Caldwell College
Women’s Basketball sophomore receives full, athletic scholarship
(BOSTON, MA) – Roxbury Community College Women’s Basketball standout, Willeen Capehart, has signed a letter of intent to attend Caldwell College, in Caldwell, NJ, on a full, athletic scholarship.
Caldwell Head Coach, Linda Cimino, is excited to have Capehart on her roster next season: “We are excited to sign Willeen, a quality point guard who has great athleticism and a high basketball IQ … she is a proven winner and she has continued to work at her game at every level and improve. She will contend at the point guard position and will look to lead our offense and be relied upon to help anchor our defense.”
Capehart, 20, a Providence, RI, native and former LaSalle Academy athlete, led the RCC Lady Tigers to a 26-4 overall record during the 2009-2010 season, highlighted by a victory at the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference Tournament and a runner-up finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region XXI Tournament.
A co-captain during her sophomore season, the 5’7” point guard posted 8.7 points, 6.8 assists (third nationally) and 2.3 steals per game, while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor and 59.2 percent from three-point range.
Roxbury Head Coach, Mark Leszczyk, had only praise for his departing star: “In my many years of Junior College coaching, I have sent numerous players off to the NCAA ranks, but none have made me more proud than Willeen. Having known her for many years before she came to Roxbury, I am aware of the amount of hours and hard work that she has put in to realize her dream. This scholarship couldn’t be given to a more deserving student-athlete.”
