RCC MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM EARNS NJCAA PLAYOFF BERTH

Roxbury Community College (RCC) Men’s Basketball Team has earned a playoff spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Tournament after defeating Massachusetts Bay Community College 86-75 in the Region 21 Championship Game at Bunker Hill Community College on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

This season the team returns to the tournament after a two-year absence. The Tigers finished 5th in 2010. In the semi-final game against Lincoln, the Tigers were led by Jeff Hall and Charles Nedd-Araujo who scored 20 and 17 points respectively. In the final game against Mass Bay, RCC was led by Paul Becklens who registered a “Rondo-like” triple double: 18 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. Gabe Fumudoh led all scorers with 23 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks.

“Qualifying for the NJCAA tournament this season, which many considered a re-building year, is a tremendous accomplishment for the team – all except for one player on our roster are freshmen,” said Head Coach Kwami Green.

With a record of 22 wins and 3 losses, the RCC Tigers is ranked number 6 in the NJCAA Polls and will travel to Sullivan County Community College on March 14th, as one of eight teams trying to win the national championship.
