Governor Deval Patrick Announces New Funding for RCC

Secretary of Education, Paul Reville, introduced Governor Deval Patrick , who drew a round of applause on October 2, 2012 from a gathering of faculty, students, and staff when he announced that Roxbury Community College would receive $20.7 in capital funding. Others present for this announcement included Representative Gloria Fox and City Councilor At-Large Ayanna Pressley.
In remarks announcing the funding, Governor Patrick said that “education is the calling card for Massachusetts. It is what we are best known for.” He added that we must invest in education as the rest of the world invests in education.
“In that spirit”, Governor Patrick said, “I’m very proud to announce that the capital budget for this year includes capital funding of $20.7 million for new projects here at RCC.” He noted that “The capital investment will provided needed upgrade and renovation to the Academic and Media Arts buildings. It will also provide funding for infrastructure related to Life Sciences and Allied Health programs.”
The Governor emphasized that “These investments underscore our commitment to affordable education and career-focused training programs.”
“I am here,” he said, “to tell you that I believe in Roxbury Community College.” The Governor concluded his remarks by saying: “Let’s build something special together.”
Kathleen Taylor, the newly appointed Chair of the RCC Board of Trustees and Dr. Linda Edmonds Turner, Interim President of RCC gave brief remarks.
