This 25-credit certificate program allows Boston residents to participate in the new Access And Retention In Skilled Employment(ARISE) program, which has been partially funded through a generous grant from Jane’s Trust. ARISE has been developed by Roxbury Community College (RCC) and Boston Medical Center to respond to the educational aspirations and health and social-welfare needs of Boston residents. RCC has engaged the leadership of Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), the Boston Public Schools (BPS), local community health centers and local community based organizations.
The Medical Office Specialist Certificate is a 25-credit program that includes: internships, mentoring, career advising and professional training. This certificate program is transferable towards an Associate program in related academic disciplines.
ARISE creates an assured pathway to a professional career in the local health care sector in Boston. This program of study will enable participants to do the following: input patient information, enter patient transactions, create insurance claims, produce patient statements, and enter charges and payments.
If selected into the ARISE Medical Office Specialist Certificate Program, students will be eligible to apply for ARISE scholarship funds to support:
- Structured internship at Boston Medical Center
- Mentoring and career advising
- Professional training in the health sector
- An opportunity to begin a career in healthcare.
