Over the past few months, there's been significant coverage on the status of the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College. The administration has spent considerable time and effort responding to the charges put forth while prioritizing smooth operations at the Center. Throughout this difficult time, our priority has remained the same: to ensure that the Reggie remains a crown jewel in our community, that it serves as the home for Massachusetts high school track, and that the Greater Roxbury Community receives access to one of the best community centers in the city.
To be clear, our stance on operational and fiscal control of the Reggie Lewis Center is unwavering: Roxbury Community College is best equipped to oversee all operations at the Center. We have the historical knowledge, community knowledge, and infrastructure required for successful operations. We know how to balance the needs of the high school track community with the needs of RCC athletics, the needs of the College, and the needs of the Greater Roxbury Community. We value all of our constituents, and we are best equipped to serve them.
Much of the coverage on the Reggie Lewis Center over the past few months has focused on the change in management personnel. Over this past weekend, RCC and Keith McDermott reached a mutual agreement regarding his employment at the College.
After twenty years as the Director of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, Mr. Keith McDermott will be leaving that position later this year. The College acknowledges Keith's long and dedicated service to the Center as he pursues other professional opportunities.
We are confident that we will work with our state's dedicated legislative leaders to ensure that a solution that meets the needs of the College, the Greater Roxbury Community, and the Massachusetts high school track community is reached.
