STEM LEAPs Grant Projects at RCC

RCC participates in three of the STEM initiatives that are led by the Leadership
Excellence Acceleration Projects (LEAPs) at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

These initiatives are:


  1. The Urban Massachusetts Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (UMLSAMP)
  2. Bridges to the Baccalaureate (Bridges)
  3. The Boston Science Partnership (BSP)

UMLSAMP

The Urban Massachusetts Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (UMLSAMP) program is partly funded by the National Science Foundation. Main objectives of the program are to increase post-secondary degree attainment in the STEM fields among underrepresented minority groups and to enhance the competitiveness of members of these groups in the areas of employment and participation in the increasingly science- and technology-based economy. The program seeks to achieve these objectives through on- and off-campus activities, support from local industry, and collaborative events among participating local community colleges and universities.


  • Recruitment
  • Facilitated Study Groups (FSG’s)
  • Development of technical skills through internships in research laboratories and on technological projects.

LSAMP Internships

Research internship opportunity
During the Spring and Fall semesters, STEM students at RCC may become involved in paid research internships through The Urban Massachusetts Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (UMLSAMP). Each assignment will be at a company, organization or school that has been approved by RCC faculty.


LSAMP Scholars

In the Spring and Fall semesters, selected students work along with RCC faculty members on STEM-related assignments. These students receive $800 stipends for the semester.


    Eligibility Requirements for LSAMP Interns and Scholars

  1. U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. Member of an underrepresented minority group
  3. Currently enrolled at RCC
  4. Letter of recommendation from faculty
