EBSCOhost is a group of periodical indexes, often including
full-text articles, covering many scholarly journals and
popular subjects. The databases include:

Academic Search Premier 1984.
Provides full text for more than 3,800 scholarly publications
covering academic areas of study including social sciences,
humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering,
language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical
sciences and ethnic studies. |

American Humanities Index.
A collection of bibliographic references to over 1,000
literary, scholarly and creative journals
published in the United States and Canada from 1975. |

Biomedical Reference Collection. Provides access to
100 full text journals covering such disciplines as clinical
medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the
health care system and the preclinical sciences. |

Business Source Premier. The world’s
largest full text business database. Provides full text
for 3,650 scholarly business journals,
including full text for 1,100 peer-reviewed business

to Nursing & Allied
Health Literature is the authoritative resource for nursing
and allied health professionals, students, educators
and researchers. Indexing and abstracting for over 1,600

Communication & Mass Media Complete. Provides the
most robust, quality research solution in areas related
to communication and mass media.
Is the result of the merging of two databases -- CommSearch
(formerly produced by the National Communication Association
(NCA)), and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced
by Pennsylvania State University). |

Clinical Pharmacology. Provides access up-to-date,
concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all
U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional

of topics relating to animals. The database consists

ERIC. ERIC, the U.S. Department of Education Educational

and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related
journals, as well as full text of more than 2,200 digests. |

25,000 encyclopedic entries. |

Health Source: Consumer Edition. With Health Source:
Consumer Edition you can search for information on many
health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences
and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general
health. Health Source: Consumer Edition features searchable
full text for nearly 160 journals including the British
Medical Journal and The Lancet, as well as abstracts
and indexing for over 170 general health, nutrition and

Getting Started
From the library's webpage http://www.rcc.mass.edu/lib click on Databases, and after choosing the appropriate
on-campus
or off-campus access, click on EBSCOhost. (Remember,
off-campus access requires a valid library barcode number)
Searching
Keyword Searching (default search)
This search will look for your keywords in author, title,
source (journal or magazine) and subject, and display
a list of articles.
Example: Asthma and children
Natural Language Search
To enter a search as a sentence or phrase, choose the Natural
Language Search option at the top of the page.
Example: rising medical costs in the United States
Advanced Search
Click on Advanced Search tab at the top of the page to
search using indexes of specific fields such as author,
journal
or title.
Limiting
Use the Limit functions below the search box to limit
your search to find, for example, only Full Text or Peer
Reviewed articles, only articles from particular Magazines or
Journals, or only publications issued during specific
Date ranges.
Truncation
To find all words with the same root, use the asterisk
as a truncator.
Example: school* finds school, schools, schoolbook, etc.
Viewing Search Results
Use on-screen small blue triangle-arrows to move through
the citation list. To view full text articles click on
the blue underlined words Full Text.
Downloading, Printing or Emailing
One record at a time: Display full-text, if available,
by clicking on blue underlined words Full Text.
Or
Several records at once: While viewing citations, mark
the records you wish to retrieve by clicking in the box
beside
the citation.
Then
Click on blue Print/Email/Save button.
On the next screen, check that the settings for options
1 through 4 are as
desired, and then in option 5 choose Print, Save or Email.
Finally,
click submit.
- Printing: If you chose the print option, click on the
Print button in the browser. Note: in the RCC Library,
printing
costs $.10 per page. Pick up copies at the Circulation
desk.
- Downloading to disk: If you chose the save option, click
File on the Browser bar, and go to Save as. Please
be sure to save to your a: drive as files saved to the c: drive will
be erased when the computer is shut off.
- Emailing:
If you chose Email enter your email address and an
optional subject. Records will automatically be
sent in full-text if available.
