Professor Kalt has taught Spanish and ESL at the University of Southern California, U Mass Boston and Boston University, and co-created interactive language learning materials which are widely used by children in Japan.


Since 2008 she has spent part of each year in Peru and Bolivia as a National Endowment for the Humanities fellow, recipient of an award from the Foundation for Endangered Languages, London, and independent researcher. Her current research focuses on bilingual language acquisition of Spanish and Quechua in Bolivia and Peru. She is developing a small archive of films of Andean Spanish speakers for use in beginning and intermediate language classes at RCC.
