ENERGY CONSERVATION TRAINING PROGRAMS
  For those seeking a career in the emerging green energy industry.

 

 

WEATHERIZATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS


This program includes the following two courses:

 

1) Fundamentals of Building Science
CSA 575: Monday: 6:00P.M.-9:00P.M.; 12 weeks; Cost: $200


 
This course introduces students to the basic principles of hot and cool air transfer and air movement within a residential area. Students learn how weatherization works as they become acquainted with the major role that insulation plays in the home heating and cooling processes.  In this course, they will become familiar with the language and vocabulary of the trade while performing basic energy loss / energy diagnosis analysis in an effort to instill in these future weatherization professionals a sense of responsibility to public safety and health as related to the energy conservation movement.

 

2) Weatherization-(Hands-on) Training

CSA 561: Wednesday: 6:00P.M. 9:00P.M.;   12 weeks; Cost: $350
                 

 

This training provides students with the theoretical and hands-on skills necessary to work as home energy conservation professionals, using some of the most eco friendly products available.  Students are introduced to different aspects of energy conservation and the management of energy costs through energy diagnosis using blower door and infrared camera. Topics and training include: insulation types and the R Value, areas of heat loss in a typical energy inefficient home, the use of mock structures to mimic different areas of a building, including the insulation of existing walls, floors, the basement, and the attic for energy efficiency and for energy costs reduction.

AIR SEALING TRAINING

Weatherization—Air Sealing Training for homeowners 

CSA 576: Z1: Thursday: 6:00P.M.- 9:00P.M.  8 weeks; Cost: $250                                       

This short-term hands-on training is specifically designed for those who would like to begin a career in energy efficiency as home air sealing specialists and for community homeowners who need to acquire the basic skills to begin weatherizing their homes in order to make them more energy efficient. Students are introduced to the basic principles of building science and to different weatherization materials while learning the basic weatherproofing and air sealing techniques from the basement to the attic.  Enrollment is limited.

Building Diagnosis—Infrared & Thermal Imaging Training

CSA 830, Saturday: 9:00A.M.-1:00P.M.;  2 weekend session;$300

 

This training offers a unique opportunity to construction workers and energy conservation professionals to acquire the skills necessary for basic infrared camera operation and for thermal imaging interpretation.  Students learn important skills and techniques about building thermographic inspection for energy efficiency.  This course is offered every semester and in the summer.

 

Building Diagnosis—Blower Door Training
 CSA 831, Saturday: 9:00A.M.-1:00P.M.; 2 Weekend Session; $300

 

The blower door is one of the tools widely used in building diagnosis for energy efficiency.  This training offers an opportunity to construction workers and energy conservation professionals to become familiar with the use of different parts of a blower door.  Furthermore, they learn how to interpret different levels of air pressure and gauge reading during a blower door diagnosis.  Basic energy efficiency field data collection and reporting will also be introduced.

Air Sealing and Insulation Training Prep for Certification

CSA 900: Tues, Thurs: 9A-1:30P; 4 weeks -               

Classes Begin March 1, 2011; Tuition:  $ 800.00

 

The Air Sealing and Insulation course consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of field training for a total of 36 instructional hours. 

 

How to Start Your Own Weatherization Business                                

CSA 820: Tuesday: 5:30P.M.-8:30P.M.;                                            

8 weeks; Cost: $250


 The residential weatherization industry is booming at an exponential rate as billions of stimulus dollars are being poured into this industry.   This is, therefore, the right time for entrepreneurs to start their new weatherization businesses. Come meet the experts to learn about licensure, registration, business license, EPA Lead approvals, etc.

English for Clean Energy Technicians
CSA 568; Mon 5:30-7:30 PM;

6 weeks; Cost: $ 160.00

Explore a career in the emerging green energy industry by signing up for this course where you will become acquainted with the lingo and vocabulary of this industry as well as numerous green career opportunities. Limited English speakers and ABE students are encouraged to enroll in this course. Enrollment is limited.
