Tigers Earn All American Honorable Mention at 2007 Nationals in Inaugural Season

Roxbury Community College capped the 2007 outdoor season by finishing 16th overall and receiving All American honorable mention recognition in several events at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Fields Nationals held May 11th & 12th in Maryland.

In Individual races:

  • Sprinter Antonio Francis placed third in the 400-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing with times of 49.81 and 22.40 respectively, earning All American honorable mention recognition along the way.
  • The men’s 4x400-meter relay team raced to a 7th place finish with a time of 3:27:73, earning All American honorable mention recognition for team members Antonio Francis, Yambo Barrett, Seth Campbell, and Carlos Silva.
  • The men’s 4x100-meter relay team ran to a 7th place finish with a time of 44.07, earning All American honorable mention recognition for team members Yambo Barrett, Carlos Silva, Antonio Francis, and Michael Ihenetu.
  • Tenisha Wheeler – RCC’s only female team member -- finished a respectable 9th in the 800-meter run and 11th in the 400-meter dash.

Coach Westley Ellis is eagerly anticipating the start of the 2007 indoor season in December,  as he expects that the team’s entire compliment of runners will return,  with exception of Antonio Francis, and that it will be augmented with standout recruits Odair Centeio from Brockton,  MA; Lawrence Wells from Orlando, FL; and Taleiah Perkins, a transfer from Alabama State College.
