Entering his 12th year at the helm of Roxbury Community College’s cheerleading team, Lance Bembury is the school’s most tenured coach.

Bembury started RCC’s cheerleading program in 1995 with five students and no budget and has since built it into a force to be reckoned with at local and regional competitions and an important and highly respected component of the athletic department.

Bembury’s recent accomplishments include organizing and hosting RCC’s first school-sponsored cheerleading competition -- called the Cheerleading Invitational -- and leading his teams to impressive finishes at numerous high profile competitions, including a second place finish at the East Elite 2007 competition in March and the Spirit Central Spring Challenge competition last April.

Prior to coaching RCC, he was an assistant cheerleading coach at Dorchester High School for five years and the head cheerleading coach at Hyde Park High School for one year.  He played a vital role in restarting Hyde Park’s cheerleading program after it had been eliminated from the school budget, and he led Dorchester High to a first place finish in the BIV 10 Cheerleading Competition sponsored by Michael Bivens of the New Edition singing group. Bembury also went on to become a judge for the BIV 10 competition.

Bembury also holds several unique distinctions, including being the first male cheerleader at Hyde Park High School and at RCC, a former captain of RCC’s cheerleading team, and recipient of a cheerleader of the year award at RCC.
Bembury, a Randolph resident, works as an administrative assistant for the Department of Mental Health for the state of Massachusetts. He is a member of the University Cheerleading Association.
