Clarissa Jones, Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Coach Clarissa Jones is entering her second season as Assistant Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team at Roxbury Community College.  Jones joins RCC after four years playing under the direction of Coach Tim O’Hagan at Molloy College (NY). 

 

During her years playing at Molloy, the team won the 2008 and 2010 ECC Championships and qualified for the NCAA Tournament on two occasions.  Jones was a team captain during her senior year.

 

As the new Assistant Coach at Roxbury, Jones’ primary responsibilities will include recruiting, practice preparation and player development, specifically working with the team’s point guards.

 

A graduate of Cathedral High School, Jones was a previous Boston Globe and Boston Herald Scholastic All-Star.

 

 

 

Shakur_Yahya

Shakur Yahya, Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

2009-2010 Record:  26-4

 

Coach Shakur Yahya is entering his fourth year as Assistant Coach of the Roxbury Community College Women’s Basketball Team.  Last season, alongside Head Coach Mark Leszczyk, Yahya led the Lady Tigers to a 23-3 regular season record (18-0 in MCCAC Conference), a MCCAC Conference Championship, and a runner-up finish at the Region XXI Qualifying Tournament.  RCC has qualified for the post-season in each of Yahya's three seasons.

 

Prior to his days at RCC, Yahya worked in a similar role at Dean College for two seasons, where he helped Head Coach Mark Leszczyk guide the Women’s Basketball Team to back-to-back appearances at the Region XXI Div II Championship Games.

Before Dean, Yahya helped Al-nur High School of Mansfield, MA - the state’s first Muslim high school - create a Boy’s Basketball Program.  He served as the program’s first Head Coach, a position that he held for three years. The team amassed a record of 45-25 under his tutelage.

Yahya’s primary responsibilities with RCC will include scouting, practice preparation, and recruiting quality student-athletes from the New England area.

Venus Trent, Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

High School:  West Roxbury HS


College:  Roxbury CC and UMASS/Boston


2009-2010:  26-4

 

Coach Venus Trent is entering her second season as Assistant Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team at Roxbury Community College.  Last season, alongside Head Coach Mark Leszczyk, Trent led the Lady Tigers to a 26-4 record and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Region XXI Tournament. 

 

A graduate of Roxbury Community College, Trent brings a wealth of leadership qualities and enthusiasm to the coaching staff.  Her main responsibilities include skill development, advance scouting of opponents and the recruitment of quality student/athletes to the Women's Basketball Program.  Coach Trent will also serve as the team’s academic tutor.

 

Besides serving as Assistant Coach as RCC, Trent is continuing her studies at UMASS/Boston in pursuit of a Law Degree.  She is a native of Boston, MA, and attended West Roxbury High School.
